I am super excited to announce that Brew To Share will be hosting a monthly event at the KelSo tap room in Brooklyn, NY. Beginning Saturday, October 3rd and then continuing on the 4th Saturday of every month (subject to change during the holidays), I will be assembling a group of BJCP judges of all levels of experience to sample homebrews and provide feedback via BJCP score sheets to local homebrewers free of charge.
I'm doing this for 2 reasons. The first is that there is a lack of regular BJCP competitions throughout the year in NYC. This means that, for the most part, feedback from BJCP judges is limited locally to only a few times a year. NYC is becoming a force to be reckoned with the growing popularity of our local breweries and with our homebrewing community competing and winning on a national level. We've got a lot to be proud of and reasons to collectively reach for the highest levels of quality in our brews.
Secondly, this gives local judges a regular opportunity to strengthen their skills and expand their knowledge, particularly if they are interested in taking (or retaking) the tasting exam in Baltimore at the National Homebrewers Conference (NHC) next year. We are looking for judges who have at least taken and passed the online exam to come judge with us.
This is an opportunity to have your beer judged against the standard with which it will be judged in Baltimore this coming June. It is for that reason that I have opted to use the 2015 BJCP Style Guidelines in anticipation of its full adaptation as the industry standard coming shortly in the next few months
How do you participate?
